Practice 2

Barcelona Chair

My last model had a simple cartoon style, so this time I wanted to model something a bit more detailed and realistic.
I began with a plane, I subdivided it and used proportional editing to create a mound, I then used two array modifiers to duplicate my shape making sure to merge them.

I inset and created small holes in the mesh for the buttons. I extruded the hole into a circle and shaped it into a button. I duplicated the button and used snap and merge to position the duplicated buttons.

I created a bevel and extruded the edges between the mounds to create the leather folds. Next I extruded the edges of the plain to finish creating the leather pillow. I used a lattice to deform the pillow into a more realistic shape. I duplicated the pillow and positioned them both to form the bulk of the chair.

I extruded a cube while using a mirror modifier to create the legs of the chair.

I duplicated part of the legs to form loops I manipulated to form the leather strap. Finally I used an array to duplicate the strap.

Using the node material editor I made a leather material and a chrome material. I used a wooden floor texture for the floor and a couple of spot lights to form my final rendered scene you can see above.
