The Brief

Overview
Produce a fully textured low polygon count 3D model using 3DS max or Maya to meet specific criteria
such as might be imposed by a game engine.

Scenario
An environment needs creating. The theme is ‘The Chair”.

This model will be an immoveable background object that can never be seen from beneath or behind.

The Lead Artist has tasked you with producing it, and has given you the following constraints which the model must meet:

  • It must contain no more than 5000 Triangles/2500 polygons

  • It must use only two 2048 pixel textures, although this can be split up into Eight separate 1024 textures if need be.

  • It must only cover area of 5m x 5m square

  • The environment must be rendered from the viewport of your 3D Modeling software and no Game engine should be used to add lighting or post process effects.

  • If you create a high poly model for Normal map creation, we will expect to be able to view those models too.

The lead artist would also like a specific process followed to create this model:

  • The environment should be based on elements of real world reference, and this reference material will be expected to be shown, along with the final render.

  • Model the Environment

  • Texture the Environment

Deliverables
The following materials should be delivered:

* Reference images.
* Screenshots of the model before texturing showing the wireframe.
* Screenshots of the model after texturing showing:
* The final piece from the same angles as the wireframe screenshots.
* UV unwrapping onto the texture(s).
* Renders of the model from the same angles as the wireframes and textured screenshots.
* The finished Maya/3DS Max file and all textures needed to view it.

*High poly models used in Normal map creation, if any.
